Edith Abeyta
Edith is the founder of Arts Excursions Unlimited, a local Hazelwood organization that offers art programming and facilitates travel experiences for neighborhood residents. She is the artist behind the mural at Lytle Land, as well as the painter of the Hazelwood Alive container at Lytle St. & Eliza St. adjacent to Hazelwood Green Plaza.

Terri Shields
Terri is the founder of Jada House International, a local Hazelwood organization that offers services and support for neighborhood youth. She hosts the annual Senior’s Luncheon, and the Backpack Blastoff event for kids going back to school every August.

Jourdan Hicks
Jourdan is a Hazelwood Local team member, and serves on the board of neighborhood organization Hazelwood Initiative. She is a journalist and creator, and lifelong Hazelwood resident.

Tim Smith
Pastor Tim is the CEO of neighborhood organization Center of Life. He has worked and volunteered in the neighborhood since the 1980s. When asked his favorite thing about Hazelwood, he says, “The people… Because everything is about people. The people [in Hazelwood] are my professors and Hazelwood is the university.”

Tiffany Taulton
Tiffany is the Director of Outreach & Sustainability at Hazelwood Initiative. She works tirelessly to regularly communicate programming, job opportunities, and other services available to Hazelwood residents, and organizes HI’s annual events, like Light Up Night in December. She and Matt Peters’ work on the Hazelwood Greenway won them an award in 2021!

Kiyomi Knox
Kiyomi is Center of Life’s Family & Community Engagement Coordinator. She coordinates many of Center of Life’s programs and events, like the recent Art of Change initiative with the Social Justice Resource Center, and Wellness Workshops.

Homer Craig
Homer is a U.S. Army veteran and longtime Hazelwood resident and beloved elder in the community. We love seeing Homer at our events, like 2021’s Walk Hazelwood pictured above.

CiArra Robinson
CiArra is the Coordinator of the Hazelwood Planned Parenthood Drop-In Center. She is constantly out in the community offering the Center’s services and programming, and connecting with the community. You might have seen her at one of our summer movie nights!

Elaine Price
Elaine is a co-founder of Floriated Interpretation, a neighborhood nursery and plant design business. Beyond supplying Hazelwood Local with beautiful centerpieces for our events, Floriated Interpretation hosts an annual pumpkin patch event for the community in October, among other community programs.

Erika Johnson
Erika is a talented Hazelwood singer and songwriter. She performed at the Hazelwood Green Plaza Grand Opening and virtual Speak Your Truth events in 2021.

Jim McCue
Jim is a master gardener and composter, and steward of the neighborhood’s Everybody’s Garden on Lytle Street. He is the author of a monthly neighborhood newsletter informing the community of what’s growing in the gardens!

JaQuay Edward Carter
JaQuay is the founder of the Hazelwood Historical Society, and an advocate for the preservation and renovation of the neighborhood’s historic facilities. JaQuay led a walking tour as part of the Plaza Grand Opening and Walk Hazelwood events in 2021, and delivered a welcoming presentation during this year’s Meet at Mill 19.

Àndrea Betts
Àndrea is the founder of Hazelwood organization the Garden of Different Abilities, and the host of the annual Walk, Talk, & Roll event. She was also the co-producer of Hazelwood Local event Love Your Neighbor in 2021, an event for writers, poets, and readers!

James & Saundra Cole
James Cole is the founder of the Hazelwood Cobras, the neighborhood’s champion youth football team. The Cobras also organize summer camps for youth. Saundra is founder of local organization P.O.O.R.L.A.W. Check them out here.

Joey Hepner
Joey is often called the “Mayor of Hazelwood”, because of his deep care for his community. You can find him on the Greenway, or organizing the clothing and annual toy giveaways at Holy Cross Lutheran Chapel.

Matt Peters
Matt is the leader of Hazelwood’s Urban Agriculture Team, and ultimate community garden steward. In 2021, he led a neighborhood committee in the planning and execution of an Earth Day bash, complete with live music, free blueberry bushes, and more.
