The Hazelwood Greenway is one of the largest greenways of a total of 13 in the City of Pittsburgh. Currently, it’s maintained by a group of volunteers, and it’s the site of frequent neighborhood programming, like Arts Excursions Unlimited’s annual Scary Hike around Halloween! In February 2021, the Trust for Public Land announced a $50,000 investment to start up the City’s Greenway Stewardship Program. This program will be piloted in Hazelwood, offering the opportunity for the City and neighborhood organizations like Hazelwood Initiative to work together to widen the trails, stabilize the trail’s slopes, and improve accessibility.
